Dominique Babini
Dominique Babini is from Argentina. Following her doctorate in political science (thesis: national information policy), she has attended postgraduate studies in documentation and librarianship at the University of Buenos Aires. Dominique has been active in developing social science information networks in Latin America and has done consulting for IDRC (Canada), UNDP, Unesco, the Argentine government, International Social Science Council, International Committee for Social Science Documentation and Information and private foundations.
Since 1983 she has been the coordinator of CLACSO´s information activities and since 1998 coordinator of CLACSO´s network of social science virtual libraries of Latin America and the Caribbean. Representing CLACSO, Dominique has coordinated in the period 1991-1995 the International Development Information Network (IDIN) an inter-regional information exchange program among social science networks of Asia (ADIPA, Kuala-Lumpur), Africa (CODESRIA, Dakar), Latin America (CLACSO, Buenos Aires), Arab countries (AICARDES, Tunes)and Europe (EADI, Tilburg).
The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) is an international non-governmental organization with status of consultative relationship with Unesco. Created in 1967, the Council now brings together 195 social science research centers and graduate programs in 21 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The network of virtual libraries provides a decentralized open source platform for dissemination and access to research results, with advanced search facility for searching in metadata and in the full-text of digital books, journals, working documents and theses (www.clacso.org.ar/biblioteca).
